Coercion Series

This is a set of three prints, based on concrete in the environment. The concrete is being increasingly invaded by plant material. The plant material contains a life force, which escapes from confinement.

The concrete is represented by an 'open bite' etching. Varnish was applied to the metal plates with my thumb. When this dried it was placed in the acid to 'bite'. One reason for this is that the thumb print has been used, historically, as identification; for criminals, the insane and for the illiterate.

There is a connection, metaphorically and physically, between this and the Asylum Series.

Size of each, framed, 730 x 580 cms.
